Untitled, 1999, plasitc-coated copper wire, salt, insect repellant lightbulbs, plastic sheeting, am radios, extension cords; demensions variable

The gallery contained eight pedestals in a grid, each covered in black plastic wrap. An insect repellant light bulb, nestled in a pile of salt was placed on each pedestal. The light bulbs were attached to rheostats, which controlled the amount of light coming from each individual bulb. In each pedestal was an am radio, tuned off-station. The radio hummed the 60-hertz tone of the electricity being drawn by the lights, and changed its volume and timbre when each light was dimmed.

Plastic-coated electrical wire was stretched across the gallery from wall to wall, forming a web. It was 7 feet high on one side and 5 feet high on the other, creating an angled ceiling and a sense of distorted space.

This installation is not an experiment and it is not science, but it does reference each of these. It is an environment, which is rich for interaction and experience.
