Untitled, 2001, blue fishing line, black fabric, light bulb; 12'x12'x12' with a 4' viewing area

Black fabric covers the walls of a room which is 12' tall, 12' wide and 16' deep. A 4' section of the room is reserved for viewing and the remaining 12' cube is considered. A star chart from the night of the opening is projected on to the walls of the cube and hooks are sewn to each star position. Blue fishing line is then threaded between the hooks to connect them all. A single 25 watt light bulb is suspended in the space, slightly off center. The effect of seeing this piece is that, first: it takes time to adjust to the dim light in the room. Second, the spatial depth and magnitude of the room is unclear, one is unable to see the entire length of the fishing line and so is unable to see any straight lines. What appears to be a circle around the light is moves along with the viewer. This is slightly disorienting and difficult to photograph, but can be described similarly to looking at a single light source through a badly scratched window. The floor of the room is barely visible at the bottom right hand corner of this image.
